About
Also known as Nenny/Neni (ne-knee).
Denisse is an artist based in Los Angeles, California. She was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador. At the age of 18, she moved to the United States to pursue her passion for Photography and technology. She graduated from the University of La Verne in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Photography with a minor in Internet Programming. In 2015, her view of Photography completely changed after working for a freelance photographer and decided that she needed to understand and make art that was meaningful to her. In Fall 2015, she started school at Claremont Graduate University and obtained her Master of Fine Arts degree in Spring 2017.
Her practice is based on photographic images she creates and retakes all over again. She is interested in ways to maneuver printed photographs by adding layers of physical objects she assembles that are made out of plexiglass, artificial flowers, and more printed photographs. She works with artificial flowers because it is a material that is recognizable and easy to disassemble for her. These physical objects are used as props to create layers by placing them on top of printed images, which create a 3D effect when they are re-photographed and may sometimes distort, interfere, or transform the original print. This process she has developed creates a pleasant and soft feeling- in a way that there is tranquility and absence of noise, yet it whispers quietly to the viewer. Her work is peculiar, carefree, and creates a nonexistent reality where the mundane becomes something more intriguing.
